رَحَلَ الماغُوط و تَبقى كلماتُه

لقد أعطونا الساعات وأخذوا الزمن
أعطونا الأحذية واخذوا الطرقات
أعطونا البرلمانات وأخذوا الحرية
أعطونا العطر والخواتم وأخذوا الحب
أعطونا الأراجيح وأخذوا الأعياد
أعطونا الحليب المجفف واخذوا الطفولة
أعطونا السماد الكيماوي واخذوا الربيع
أعطونا الجوامع والكنائس وأخذوا الإيمان
أعطونا الحراس والأقفال وأخذوا الأمان
أعطونا الثوار وأخذوا الثورة

What a man he was...No one else can "betray the homeland" and be even more loved.
By the way, so I saw you like Phillip Glass, not a lot of people do, nice to see other's too who like a bit different music..

Thanks Catherine. Yes, Maghout was so exceptional that he could allow himself to "betray his homeland" and not be considered as betraying the people in it. I think that he was extraordinary not only as a poet but also as someone who saw clearly through the layers of hype and tradition.

P.S.: We share not only Philip Glass, but also Divine Intervention (one of my favourite films ever), Hanna Mina, Zakariya Tamer, etc.

Yes, powerful poem.

As for the unknown Syrian, I will post a "part 3" soon, with more clues, or actually more of the story of that man.

For the moment, suffice it to say that he is not known in Syria at all.

I promise I'll post next week.
